Your adventure begins in Dar es Salaam with a warm welcome ceremony and a tour through its historical landmarks. Days 2-4 whisk you away to the magical Zanzibar Archipelago, where Stone Town’s history, marine conservation, and pristine beaches await. The journey continues to Arusha (Days 5-7) for a cultural exchange with local tribes and community service projects. The trip culminates in Lake Manyara National Park (Days 8-10) with canopy walks, wildlife photography workshops, and a farewell dinner. On Day 11, you’ll depart from Arusha, carrying memories that will last a lifetime.
Ideal Duration: 11 Days
To fully enjoy the diversity of activities and the natural beauty Tanzania offers, the ideal time to visit is during the dry season from June to October. During these months, you’ll experience sunny, dry weather with comfortable temperatures ranging between 25-30°C (77-86°F), perfect for outdoor adventures and exploring the stunning landscapes without the concern of rain or extreme heat. This period also provides clear skies and cool evenings, ideal for nighttime activities and enjoying the serene beauty of Zanzibar’s beaches and the vibrant wildlife in Lake Manyara.
On the first day of your trip, you will arrive in Dar es Salaam, the largest city and the commercial capital of Tanzania. You will be greeted by a traditional welcome ceremony, where you will experience the warmth and hospitality of the local people.
You will witness a colorful display of music, dance, and costumes that reflect the diversity of Tanzania’s ethnic groups. You will also have a chance to interact with some of the locals and learn some basic greetings in Swahili, the national language. You will then embark on a city tour to discover the rich history and culture of Dar es Salaam, visiting landmarks such as the National Museum, where you will see exhibits of fossils, art, and historical artifacts; the Kariakoo Market, where you will explore the bustling and vibrant atmosphere of one of the largest markets in East Africa; and the St. Joseph’s Cathedral, where you will admire the Gothic architecture and stained-glass windows of this landmark church.
You will also learn about the diverse and vibrant Tanzanian culture through various workshops, where you will get to see and try some of the traditional arts, crafts, and cuisine of the country. You will learn how to make batik, a technique of dyeing cloth with wax; how to weave baskets from palm leaves; and how to cook some delicious dishes such as ugali, a maize porridge; nyama choma, grilled meat; and pilau, a rice
dish with spices.
We will travel from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Stone Town. Taking a ferry is adventurous. We will take a ferry from the Dar es Salaam Ferry Terminal to Zanzibar Ferry Terminal. The journey takes around 2 hours.
Once you arrive in Zanzibar Stone Town, you can enjoy a variety of activities and attractions, such as visiting the historical Forodhani Gardens, the House of Wonders and the Old Fort, taking a spice tour with a traditional cooking lesson, exploring the local food market and street food, quad biking to a local village, dining at the Rock restaurant and cave tour, or taking a private tour to Prison Island.
On days 2-4 of your trip, you will stay in Stone Town, the old part of Zanzibar City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have a guided tour of the town, visiting landmarks such as the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, the Palace Museum, and the Anglican Cathedral. You will also have a chance to wander through the narrow alleys and bazaars, where you can shop for souvenirs and spices.
Zanzibar is not only a tropical paradise with stunning beaches and turquoise water, but also a destination with a variety of activities to suit different interests and preferences. We will fly to Arusha the fastest and most convenient way to get to Arusha from Zanzibar.
You can take a direct flight from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) to Arusha Airport (ARK) in about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
For the next three days, you will explore the rich and diverse culture of Arusha and its surrounding villages.
You will have the opportunity to interact with local tribes, such as the Maasai, and learn about their traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles. You will also engage in community service projects that benefit the local people and the environment. Finally, you will enjoy some cultural performances that showcase the dance and music of this region.
Arusha is a city in northeastern Tanzania and the capital of the Arusha Region. Located below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, Arusha has a temperate climate. The city is close to the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Arusha National Park on Mount Meru. Arusha is a major international diplomatic hub. It hosts the East African Community and the
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. The city has many attractions for visitors, such as museums, markets, cultural centres, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, and lodges.
One of the highlights of this itinerary is the cultural exchange with local tribes. You will visit different villages and meet the people who live there. You will learn about their history, customs and values through storytelling and craft sessions. You will also witness their daily activities, such as herding cattle, making fire and preparing food. You will gain a deeper appreciation of their way of life and their connection to nature.
Another highlight is the community service projects that you will participate in. You will work alongside local communities to improve their living conditions and support their development. You will help with projects such as building classrooms, painting murals, planting trees and installing solar panels. You will also learn about the sustainable initiatives that they are implementing, such as rainwater harvesting, organic farming and waste management. You will contribute to their well-being and empowerment.
The last highlight is the traditional dance and music performances that you will attend. You will watch talented artists perform dances and songs that reflect their culture and identity. We will drive from your hotel in Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, the distance is about 126 km and the driving time is about 90 minutes. However, this may vary depending on the traffic, the road conditions, and the wildlife sightings along the way. You may also want to make some stops to enjoy the attractions between Arusha and Lake Manyara, such as the Cultural Heritage Centre, the Meserani Snake Park, and the Tanzanite Experience. These places offer you a chance to learn more about the culture, history, and natural resources of Tanzania.
Once you reach Lake Manyara National Park, you will be amazed by the diversity of wildlife and landscapes in this small but beautiful park. You can see elephants, giraffes, zebras, flamingos, and even tree-climbing lions in the park. You can also enjoy a scenic view of the lake and the Rift Valley from the park’s entrance gate. Lake Manyara National Park is a great destination for a day trip from Arusha, but you can also spend more time there if you wish.
The last three days of the itinerary will be spent in the Lake Manyara National Park, a scenic and diverse destination that offers a range of activities.
One of the highlights is the canopy walk, which allows you to explore the treetops and observe the wildlife from a different angle. You will walk on a suspended bridge that spans 370 meters and reaches a height of 18 meters above the ground.
You will see monkeys, birds, butterflies and other animals that live in the forest canopy. You will also learn about the importance of preserving the forest ecosystem and its inhabitants from your local guide.
Another activity is the nature and wildlife photography workshop, where you will get tips and tricks from professional photographers on how to capture stunning images of the animals and landscapes. Check out from your hotel by 10:00 am. Make sure you have all your belongings and documents with you. After breakfast and drive to Arusha Airport, where you will catch your flight to your next destination. Drive to Arusha airport, which is about 126 km away. The journey will take about 3 hours,depending on the traffic and road conditions.
Along the way, you will enjoy the scenic views of the Rift Valley and the Maasai villages. You will also pass by the town of Mto wa Mbu, where you can stop for some souvenir shopping or a snack. You will arrive at Arusha Airport with enough time to check in and go through security.
